Snowmaking FAQ

What is Snowmaking?

Successful snowmaking is the art of manufacturing and positioning snow in the desired quantities, at a particular location and in the required time.

Why make snow?

Many ski companies and resorts have spent vast amounts of money on their ski centres. Their livelihood depends on the snow conditions that attract their visitors.

To risk this investment to the unpredictable weather is no longer considered an option. For this reason, taking chance and probability out of this most important element is the most logical approach to guarantee a return on investments.

Being able to deliver snow to the areas where it is required and in the quantities that it is required, eliminates the risk of no snow.

How does it work?

Water is pumped through hoses and into snowmaking machines that break the water down into very small particles. These particles, along with air particles, are pumped into a freezing atmosphere and snowflakes are the result.

This seems simple but it is actually a complicated process requiring the correct amounts of water, air and pressure. Air and water can actually be regulated to produce a wet or dry snow.

What does it cost?

Costs to manufacture snow include labour and operating expenses but most importantly efficiency of the system.

Snowflex is an advanced hose with lower friction losses than standard hoses. They are manufactured with a focus on the efficient and long-term running of a system.
